Our state-of-the-art infrastructure continues to evolve to provide the best solutions for card businesses: if you operate under your own license, your clients will be able to spend balances in different currencies through a single card powered by Pomelo, with no currency exchange fees! All this, thanks to our authorizer now allowing the selection of multiple accounts when authorizing a purchase.

How do multicurrency cards powered by Pomelo work?

This new functionality allows holding balances in multiple currencies, optimizing the approval of transactions by automatically using available funds in the corresponding currency. Additionally, if the user does not have a balance in that denomination, all their account balances are assessed to respond to an authorization request. In Mexico, we already have clients who have integrated the solution to operate the Multicurrency Product in 2025.

"We are very excited about the launch of our MultiCurrency product. With this new feature, issuers currently offering a multi-currency account solution to their users, or those wanting to do so, will be able to enhance their value proposition by incorporating a multi-currency disposal method" – Raymundo Guerrero, MX Country Manager of Pomelo.

Discover its benefits:

  • It simplifies users' experience in their international transactions, allowing them to use balances in different currencies without worrying about exchange conversion costs.
  • It offers the flexibility to prioritize the use of currencies, allowing the determination of the hierarchical order of accounts, facilitating efficient management of accounts in various currencies and eliminating losses due to unfavorable conversions.
  • Customization of the exchange rate for conversions: you will have the flexibility to determine the exchange rate we will use to convert funds from an account when the user does not have sufficient balance in the primary currency defined for the transaction (according to the hierarchy order). Through our API, and with the frequency you consider ideal for your business, you can send us the exchange rate you wish to apply.
  • It improves the payment experience to Brands, Mastercard and Visa, by allowing the configuration of the settlement of international operations in as many currencies as you manage. If you offer your client an account in euros, you could choose to pay the Brands the entire operation directly in the same currency.

How to set up and launch it?

If you want to issue a multi-currency product using our balance authorizer, you should contact our team. Then you must open a multicurrency project with the brand, and proceed with the following configurations with our Integration engineers:

  • Indicate which currencies you will offer to your customers
  • Indicate which currencies you will manage with the brand
  • Integrate with our exchange rate API, where you will keep the exchange rates you want us to use updated for currency conversion when authorizing a purchase.
  • Define the order of currency hierarchy you want to use in authorizing a purchase.

This new functionality is now available to all our clients who contract the Processing Platform. Learn more details in the documentation.
